Ortha Allene Goodman, 96, formerly of Duke Center and Eldred, passed away on February 16, 2018 at the Rochester N.Y. General Hospital following a brief illness.
Born August 19, 1921 in Rew, she was a daughter of Leon C. and Bertha Eck Kemp Sr.  On August 13, 1949 in Olean N.Y. she married Ronald L. Goodman who passed away on August 16, 1989.
Ortha attended schools in the Eldred area and graduated from Eldred High School in 1939 and later attended Temple University in Philadelphia and Penn State University in DuBois, Pa.  During WWll she was employed at the Eldred Munitions Plant and later the Van der Horst Co. in Olean.  Also, she had worked for the area Visiting Nurses Association and later became the Center Director for the Eldred Senior Center retiring in 1977.  After retiring, she and her husband moved to Florida and spent twelve wonderful years fishing and playing cards with their friends.  After moving back to the area, she was instrumental in helping start the WWll Museum in Eldred and became one of the first co-directors.
Surviving are one son, Ronald (Louise) Goodman of Duke Center, a daughter, Kathy (Bob) Roberts of Dundee, N.Y., seven grandchildren, Jeffrey and Alyssa Goodman, Allen, Kevin and Andrew Roberts, Jason and Melissa Beckley, fourteen grandchildren and one great great grand daughter, a sister, Ruth Brown of Erie, Pa. and several nieces and nephews.  Ortha was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Beckley and three brothers, Leon Jr., Kenneth and Richard Kemp, and a nephew, Raymond Kemp and a niece, Terry Boehm.
Friends may call on Tuesday at the Frame Funeral Home from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.  The funeral service will be held on Wednesday (February 21, 2018) at 11:00 A.M. with the Reverend Rick Price, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
Memorials may be made to the Lamphier Cemetery or the charity of the donor’s choice.
