Walter Danvir, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather
ELDRED, Pa. — Walter C. Danvir, 91, of North Branch, passed away Wednesday (April 19, 2017) at the Buffalo General Hospital.
Born Nov. 9, 1925, in Grampian, he was a son of John and Winifred Newcomer Danvir. On Aug. 3, 1946, in Grampian he married Elizabeth J. Curtis, who passed away on March 14, 2002.
Walter had attended Irishtown one room school in Grampian. He had resided in the Eldred area since 1946.
Mr. Danvir was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served with the 269th Infantry Division in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. He was employed by American-Olean Tile Corporation for many years prior to his retirement in 1987.
Walter was a member of St. Raphael’s Church in Eldred, a lifetime member and past officer of the Private Myron Burns Post 2092 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the American Legion Post 887 of Eldred. He was an avid deer and turkey hunter and he enjoyed river fishing, camping and especially helping others.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ellen (Bob) Bradt of Eldred and Linda Bennett of Portville, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Keith Bennett, Stacy (Tim) Connor, Brad (Juliet) Bennett, Brian Bradt, and Corey Danvir.; as well as eleven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, he was predeceased by a son, John A. Danvir in 1959; a daughter, Ruth Ann Danvir on March 31, 2017; six sisters; and five brothers.
Friends may call at the Frame Funeral Home on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Charles Schmitt as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Raphael’s Cemetery, Eldred.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eldred World War Two Museum.
