Eldred-- Thomas H. VanScoter, 83, of Clif-Nel Drive, passed away on Wednesday (June 15, 2022) at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born April 24, 1939 on the family homestead in Eldred he was a son of Stanley L. and Rosa (Strait) VanScoter. On June 4, 1960 in the St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Eldred he married Cherrie K. Barnes, who survives.
Tom was a 1958 graduate of Otto-Eldred High School and was a lifelong resident of the Eldred area. He spent 31 years employed as a Lab-worker for Dextor-Hysol in Olean, NY.
Mr. VanScoter was a former member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Eldred; he enjoyed listening to music and square dancing, as well as playing cards, especially euchre, and hunting in his earlier years. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
Surviving are one son, Eric (Helena) VanScoter of Commercial Point, OH; two daughters, Julie VanScoter and Victoria (Steven) Brown, both of Eldred; four grandchildren, Deric (Marklyn) Brown, Jordan Brown, Coen VanScoter, and Baltazar Boleto; as well as three sisters-in-law, Nini VanScoter, Margaret VanScoter and Debbie VanScoter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Martin VanScoter in 1979; as well as four brothers, Louis “Bud”, Franklin Eugene, Robert and Ronald VanScoter; and two sisters, Dolly VanScoter and Shirley Clark.
Friends may call at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred on June 25th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, at which time a memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm with the Rev. Max Simms officiating. Burial will be in Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
