Shirley J. Reed

ELDRED, Pa. --- Shirley Reed of Eldred, PA passed from earth to Heaven Sunday, July 24, 2022. She was born to Fred and Rhea Moore on April 9, 1931. She married Raymond Reed on July 7, 1951. Together, they had 11 children. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her children, Ron and Margie (Shakir), and her siblings, Alice Baker, Margie Mahon, Lorraine Bova, Fred Moore, and Billy Plowman. She is survived by children, Rhea (Rich) of Ridgely, MD; John (Amy) of Bemus Point, NY; Ken, with whom she lived, of Eldred, PA; Georgia (Harry) of Dover, DE; Bert (Mary) of Erie, PA; Mike (Amy) of Columbus, OH; Pat (Elaine) of Erie, PA; Ronda (Wayne) of Dover, DE; and Billy (Sarah) of Cleveland, OH. She is also survived by her brother, James (Cherry) of Florida and sister, Louise of Missouri. She had 26 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She graduated from Meadville Nursing Program in Meadville, PA in 1951. In 1964, her husband became the pastor of his first church. She happily took on the role of “pastor’s wife” while she raised her children.

After the passing of her husband, Shirley carried on his ministry by speaking at several churches and events in Western New York, while also working as a home health care aid. She was a member of the McRae Brook Wesleyan Church and the Senior Center of Eldred. Her favorite pastime was crocheting afghans as gifts for loved ones, praying for the recipient as she crocheted each afghan. She became active in the Eldred Red-Hatters Society with her sister, Lorraine, and enjoyed that time with her friends each month.

Everyone knew two things about Shirley: she loved Jesus, and she loved her children, living life dedicated to serving Him and raising her family. She would often joke about her family who had gone to Heaven first, saying: “They probably think I didn’t make it!” Well, she is now with her Savior and Lord along with her family. Welcome Home, Shirley. It’s party time!

The funeral will be held ‪on Friday, July 29‬ at First Wesleyan Church in Bradford, PA. Friends may visit ‪from 1-2pm‬ with services immediately following.
