ELDRED, Pa. — Ruth R. Johnson, 93, formerly of State Line Road,
Eldred, passed away Thursday (Dec. 10, 2015) at the Sena Kean Manor,
Smethport, following a lengthy illness.
Born Aug. 23, 1922, in Wellsville, N.Y., she was a daughter of Leonard
and Susie Hall Hackett.
Ruth attended Richburg, N.Y., area schools. She had resided in Olean,
N.Y., and Portville, N.Y., before moving to Stateline Road in Eldred in
1974.
Mrs. Johnson was employed at Daystrom Furniture in Friendship as well
as Acme Electric in Cuba. She was later employed by Carnham’s Men’s
Store, Spigel’s Shoes and Grant’s Department Store, all in Olean.
She raised and sold miniature schnauzers for over 15 years.
She loved animals and especially loved raising miniature schnauzers.
Surviving are one son, Paul Thurston Tuttle of Richburg; three
stepsons, Ed Witherell of Olean, William Witherell of Smethport and
Michael Johnson of Salamanca; a stepdaughter, Kim Gunto of Olean; many
grandchildren and stepgrandchildren; a sister, Phyllis Burch of
Yorkshire, N.Y.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Leslie Witherell, in 1968,
and Phillip Johnson; a daughter, Janet Louise Tuttle, in 1949; three
brothers, Kenneth, Clayton and Leonard Jr. Hackett; as well as four
sisters, Martha Miller, Susie Ionne, Shirley Peterson and Helen
Torrence.
Friends may call Monday (Dec. 14, 2015) at the Obi Community Church,
1948 NY-305, Cuba, N.Y., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at which time funeral
services will be held with the Rev. David Cook, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in Mt. View Cemetery, Olean.
