Eldred, Pa. Devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather
Ronald F. Welch Sr., 85, passed away at his residence on May 10, 2018 following a brief illness.
Born on October 9, 1932 in Eldred he was a son of John P. and Margaret Ann Kreitzer Welch. On October 12, 1963 in the St. Mary’s of the Angles Church in Olean he married M. Eileen Cronin, who survives.
Ron was a 1951 graduate of Eldred High School and has lived in Eldred his entire life. He was employed as a splicer by Bell of Pa, which later became Verizon, for 41 years. He was a member of St. Raphael’s Church in Eldred and the Knights of Columbus, the Harlan Davis Council, the Eldred Borough Council for over 20 years, the Eldred Parks Commission for 20 years, a lifetime member of the Communications Workers of America, the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Five County Borough Association, the LaVerna Society of St. Bonaventure and was a past Boy Scouts Scoutmaster and had himself achieved the honor of Eagle Scout and had also volunteered to repair talking book machines for the blind. Ron loved Eldred, he loved Elm St., he loved his Church and gardening and birdwatching in his yard.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 54 years, are two sons, Ronald F. (Michelle) Welch Jr. of Lancaster, California and Dr. Mark J. Welch of Eldred and three grandchildren, Ronald F. Welch lll, Margaret Grace Welch and Victoria Jean Welch and a sister, Mary Katherine Valentinelli of Dryden, N.Y. and a sister in law, Bernice Welch of Eldred and several nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. John P. Welch in 1996 and Martin Welch in 2017, a sister in law, Mary Welch and a brother in law, Joseph Valentinelli and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Frame Funeral Home in Eldred on Sunday from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday (May 14, 2018) at the St. Raphael Church in Eldred at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Thomas Brown, as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Allegany, N.Y.
The Rosary will be recited on Sunday evening at 6:45 P.M. at the funeral home.
The family requests that memorials be made to St. Raphael Church or the Eldred Ambulance Fund or the donors choice.
