Roger L. Larson
DUKE CENTER, Pa. — Roger L. Larson, of Duke Center, passed away
Wednesday (Oct. 15, 2014) at UPMC Hamot, Erie, following many years of
ill health.
Born May 26, 1940, in Smethport, he was the son of the late Raymond J.
and Alena Abbey Larson of Eldred. On Aug. 6, 1966, he married the former
Jane McClean, of Olean, at The First Baptist Church, Olean.
Roger was a 1958 graduate of Otto Township High School, Duke Center.
Following graduation, he went to work in the office of Bradley Builders
in Olean as a bookkeeper. When the owners decided to expand their
contracting business to include kitchen remodeling, Roger became their
salesman/designer. This was the beginning of what would become a
successful sales career that lasted until his retirement. In 1967, Roger
went to work for Life Savers Inc., now part of Kraft Foods Inc. While
working there, he formed his own company, Duke Center Supply, where he
designed and sold kitchens along with his friend George Packer, of
Olean. Roger left Life Savers Inc. in 1979, when he was recruited to
work for Hunt-Wesson Foods, now part of ConAgra, where he won many
national awards for his sales efforts. He left the company in 1997,
following a corporate buy out to work in the private sector. He
established his own company, Moody Supply, buying and selling antique
pocket watches and jewelry. He continued this business while working as
a salesman for former Race Buick, Pontiac, Olds and GMC on South Avenue
in Bradford, and then Rink Brothers Chrysler dealership on East Main
Street in Bradford, until Rink Brothers closed in 2009.
His hobbies included hunting, collecting antique pocket watches,
boating on the Kinzua Reservoir, attending local stock car races and
watching NASCAR. He was a former member and past president of the Otto
Township Lions Club, National Watch and Clock Collectors, a “Den
Dad” for Cub Scout Pack 413 and a member of the Duke Center United
Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Larson; a son, John A. Larson, of Duke
Center; two aunts, Olive Eckstrom of Smethport and Doris Abbey of
Coudersport; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris M. Larson, on June 9th, 2014.
Per his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A
committal service will be held at a later date.
