Robert E. Root Sr. Loving husband, father and grandfather
Duke Center- Robert E. Root Sr., 69, of Brooklyn St., passed away suddenly on Saturday (March 12th, 2016) at the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo following a brief illness.
Born November 22nd, 1946 in Olean, he was a son of Merle and Joan Bean Root. On October 7th, 1978 in the Duke Center United Methodist Church, he married Andrea Snow, who survives.
Bob was a 1965 graduate of Otto-Eldred High School. He had grown up on Indian Creek Rd., Eldred and Lived Several places in the area before moving to Duke Center in 1993.
Mr. Root served with the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in Italy and Germany. He was employed by National Fuel Gas Co. where he retired in 2007 as a supervisor.
Bob was a founding member of the Otto Township Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Old Home Days Committee, member and past lodge master of the Duke Center Masonic Lodge 555, F & AM, as well as the Otto Township and Eldred Boro Fire Departments, the NRA and the trap shooting club at the Bradford Gun Club.
He enjoyed watching all sports, including NASCAR and dirt track racing, and was an avid Yankee’s fan. He also enjoyed wood working, and playing cards. He loved spending time and eating Oreos with his grandson, Karter.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 38 years are one son, Robb (Linley) Root Jr. of Shinglehouse; his grandson, Karter Root; his father in law, Calvin Chase of Cape Coral, Florida; a sister, Sue Anne (Richard) Rivers of Melbourne, Florida; two brother in laws, Bill (Karen) Snow of Rixford and Marty (Ann) Russell of New Berlin, Pa; as well as several aunts and uncles and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death his mother in law, Alice “Arlene” Chase in 2011, and his niece, Melissa Rich Sterling in 2010.
Friends may call Monday (March 14th, 2016) from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am with Rev. Jay Tennies officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Smethport Honor Guard.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 7:45 pm Monday at the funeral home by the Duke Center Lodge 555, F & AM.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or the Otto Township Fire Department.
