Richard R. Silvis

Richard R. Silvis, 94, passed away on April 27, 2018 at the Bradford Ecumenical Home.
Born on March 9, 1924 in Coryville, Pa. he was a son of Neil and Myrna Cochran Silvis.  On March 9, 1947 in the Eldred Methodist Church he married Carol E. Everitt, who passed away on Dec. 16, 2013.
Mr. Silvis had attended the Otto High School and was a longtime resident of Duke Center.  He was a veteran of World War ll having served with the U.S. Army in the 29th Infantry Division in the European Theater having participated in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy.  He had been employed in the local oil fields and later for 32 years he had worked at the Pittsburg Corning Corp. in Port Allegany, prior to retiring in 1986.  Dick had attended the Duke Center United Methodist Church and loved hunting, fishing and gardening, when he was younger he had enjoyed playing in adult softball leagues.
Surviving are two sons, Gary (Coleen) Silvis  and David Silvis, both of Duke Center and two daughters, Barbara (Randy) Evans of Eustis, FL and Cheryl (Jim) Eaton of Tavares, FL and a daughter in law, Jan Silvis of Harmony, Pa. Seven grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.  
In addition to his wife, Dick was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Silvis in 2012 and three brothers, Edward, Clifford and Bill Silvis and two sisters, Gladys Moses and Adeline Schwab.
Friends may call today (Friday , April 27, 2018) at the Duke Center United Methodist Church from 2:00-4:00, and from 7:00-9:00  p.m. and again on Saturday at the Church from 10:00 until Noon, at which time the funeral service will be held with the Rev. Beth Rosler, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Duke Center Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Eldred WWII museum, the Duke Center United Methodist Church or the Otto Township Ambulance.
