Michael E. “Chief Slow Turtle” Goochee, 76, of Barnum Road, passed away on September 21, 2016 at the Charles Cole Hospital in Coudersport following a brief illness.
Born September 24th, 1939 in Port Allegany, Pa he was a son of John E. and Ruth M. Barnett Goochee.
Mike attended Port Allegany Schools and had resided on Barnum Rd. since 1986.
He had held several jobs in the local area prior to becoming disabled.
Mr. Goochee was a member of the Grace Chapel Church in Farmers Valley, the National Rifle Association and the Canoe Fish and Game Club in Port Allegany.
Mike loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and collecting Native American Indian artifacts, as well as constructing Tee-Pees. He enjoyed building things and had many interesting creations, including a Volkswagen with skis. He loved music, and played in the Good Ole Boys band as well as being a one man band, playing in several local places.
Surviving are one son, Shane Bloomfield of Olean; three sisters, Shirley Johnston of Horseheads, NY, Alta Manning of Port Allegany, and Kathleen “Beebe” Pratt of Portville; as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his kitty, Scrappy, and several friends and caregivers, Joanne and Leonard Strang, Carl and Doreen Skinner, and Bernie and Gayle.
He was preceded in death by his father, John E. Goochee; and his mother and step-father, Ruth M. and Ralph R. Hardes.
Friends may call Saturday (October 1st, 2016) at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred from 12:00 to 3:00 pm, at which time a memorial service will be held with the Rev. Jerry Stauffer officiating.
