Mary Leffler
ELDRED — Mary Frances "Mary Fran" Leffler, 71, of Mechanic Street, passed away on Friday (Nov. 23, 2018) at the Bradford Nursing Pavilion.
Born Dec. 19, 1946, in Olean, N.Y., she was a daughter of Charles “Buddy” and Wildamary McInroy Leffler.
Mary Fran was a 1964 graduate of Otto-Eldred High School. She then went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in education from Mansfield University in 1968. She then studied for her master’s degree at Bowie State University and the University of Maryland.
She was employed for most of her career in Prince George’s County, Md., as a fifth grade teacher as well as an ESOL (English as a Second Language) teacher, prior to moving back to Eldred in 2000.
Ms. Leffler was active with starting the Eldred Area Free Library and Historical Society, as well as the Oak Hill Cemetery cleanup project and the Bradford Red Hat Ladies. She was a member of the Eldred United Methodist Church and was greatly interested in World War II history and also interested in collecting and sometimes selling antiques. Most of all she was a great lover of animals and a mother to three cats, “Tabby,” “Tally” and “Mandy.”
Surviving are two nieces, Michelle (Brian) Douthity in Florida and Jamie (Rock) Barton of Mill Hall; as well as her sister, Gloria; and her brother, Harry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles in 1991 and Wildamary in 2004.
Friends may call Tuesday at the Eldred United Methodist Church from 11 a.m. to noon, at which time funeral and committal services will be held with the Rev. Ernie Perry, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
