Smethport, Pa.
Mary A. Bickford, 82, formerly of the East Valley Road, passed away on Tuesday (January 9, 2018) at the Sena Kean Manor in Smethport following a brief illness.
Born on December 11, 1935 in Farmers Valley she was the daughter of Herbert and Mildred Leet Austin. On March 7, 1953 in Farmers Valley she married Benjamin D. Bickford, who passed away on December 29, 1997.
Mary had attended the Farmers Valley school and had resided her entire life in the area. She had been employed at Coasta’s Supermarket in Smethport in the Deli and for several years had been employed as a cook at the Eldred American Legion Post No. 887. She had also owned and operated Mary’s Ceramic Shop in Smethport. Mary was a member and past president of the Eldred American Legion Post 887 Auxiliary, a member of the Eldred Borough Fire Department Auxiliary and the Smethport VFW Post No. 2497 Auxiliary. She was a very avid bingo player and had also enjoyed puzzle books and word search and of course, old time country music.
Surviving are two sons, William (Deana) Bickford of Smethport and Edward (Beverly) Bickford of Bradford, three daughters, Karen (Jim Moffat) Higley and Dianne Gallegos, both of Smethport and Janet Kelley of Eldred. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Jennifer Higley, Ben (Shandra) Gallegos, Mike Hook, Deana Marie Bickford, Garrett (Katie Kolivoski) Bickford and Jordan (Karl) Rinamon and five great grandchildren. In addition to her husband Mary was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Maryann Gallegos in 1989 and Donald James “DJ’ Calhoun in 2013, and five brothers, Ed Leet and Lawrence, Robert, James and Elmer Austin.
Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 4 P.M. and from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Frame Funeral Home in Eldred. The funeral service will be held on Saturday (January 13, 2018) at 1:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Max Simms, officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairmount Cemetery in Farmers Valley.
