M. Eileen Welch, 88, passed away on May 30, 2018 at the Buffalo General Hospital following an apparent stroke.
Born October 3. 1929 in Olean she was a daughter and the youngest
of five children of Patrick J. and Katherine E. Prendergast Cronin. On October 12, 1963 in the St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean she married Ronald E. Welch Sr., who passed away on May 10, 2018.
Eileen was a 1947 graduate of Olean High School where she was on the Honor Society. At the age of eleven she began working as a nanny to many families in the Olean area and later was employed by the F.W. Woolworth 5 and 10 in Olean. For eighteen years she worked at Clark Brothers, Division of Dresser Industries, which later became Dresser Rand as a secretary retiring in 1965 to raise their children. Later Eileen went to work for the First National Bank in Eldred, which later became the Hamlin Bank and Trust Co. for eighteen years, retiring from there in 1993.
While living in Olean she was a member of the St. Mary of the Angels Church, where she was a member of the choir and the Alter Rosary Society, she was also a member of the Bona-Tom, a social and service society, the St. Raphael Church in Eldred and it’s Alter Rosary Society, treasurer and served as a offertory counter, a member of the Red Hat Rebels, the Barden Brook Lunch Bunch, the Eldred Senior Center and AARP. Eileen loved watching birds in their yard and the Television program “Jeopardy”.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald F. (Michelle) Welch Jr. of Lancaster, California and Dr. Mark J. Welch of Eldred, three grandchildren, Ronald F. Welch lll and twin granddaughters, Margaret Grace and Victoria Jean Welch all of Lancaster, CA, also her sister and best friend, Mildred (Dr. Gerard) Diesfeld of Arcade, N.Y. and many loving nieces and nephews living throughout the world who were very near and dear to her, and two Sister-In-Laws, Bernice Welch of Eldred and Mary Katherine Valentinelli. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by brothers, William and Harold Cronin and a sister, Lillian Woods and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Frame Funeral Home in Eldred on Sunday from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Raphael Church with the Rev. Thomas Brown as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the St Bonaventure Cemetery in Allegany, N.Y.
The Rosary will be recited on Sunday at the funeral home at 6:45 P.M.
Memorials can be made to the St. Raphael Church or to the donors choice.
