Lowell Austin Jr.
ELDRED — Lowell L. Austin Jr., 70, of Main Steet, passed away on Saturday (Aug. 1, 2015) at his residence following an apparent heart attack.
Born on May 20, 1945, in Smethport, he was the son of Lowell L. and Louise Young Austin Sr. He had attended Smethport High School and had resided in Eldred for many years. Lowell was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in Vietnam with the Fourth Infantry Division as a Specialist Fourth Class. He was employed for many years for the Taylor and Armstrong Construction Co. of Eldred, retiring as a supervisor.
Lowell was a member of the Eldred American Legion Post No. 887, the Private Myron Burns V.F.W. Post No. 2092 of Eldred, the Disabled Veterans National Foundation, the Eldred Conservation Club and the Allegheny Mountain Oldtyme Music Association. He loved woodworking and was well known for his lawn and house decorations, he also enjoyed riding his scooter around Eldred and visiting the Amish.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Smethport are a daughter, Lisa (Alan) Stevens of Rochester, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Kevin Clark and Marissa Stevens; four sisters, Helen (Ralph) Dickinson, Ethel (Tom) Coldren and Marlene (Paul) Conn, all of Smethport, and Cynthia (Mike) Longstaff of Port Allegany; and several nieces and nephews.
Lowell was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Phyllis Hubbard.
Friends may call at the Frame Funeral Home, in Eldred, on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at which time a funeral service will be held with the Rev. Joann Piatko and the Rev. Max Simms co-officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery in Farmers Valley. The Eldred American Legion Post 887 will conduct a prayer service and present the veteran’s flag on Wednesday evening.
