Joseph Connolly
Eldred- Joseph C. Connolly, 73, of West Eldred Rd., passed away Tuesday May 2nd, 2017 at the Olean General Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born March 17th, 1944 in Olean, he was a son of Joseph W. and Doris a Dunn Connolly. On September 12th, 1987 at the VFW Post 2092 in Eldred he married Rosanna “Rose” Miles, who passed away on December 15th, 2015.
Mr. Connolly had attended Eldred Township Schools. He was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served as a Seabee with the US Navy.
Joe was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Pvt. Myron Burns Post 2092 of Eldred and the American Legion Post 887 of Eldred, as well as the Humane Society.
Joe greatly enjoyed Bluegrass Music and an avid banjo player; along with his wife Rose, he was a member of several bands, most recently the band Crossfork. He also participated in the adopt a soldier program and was an advocate for veterans. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping for as long as he was able; Joe also cherished all of his pets.
Surviving are two step-sons, Mark (Rosemary) Hathaway of Great Valley and Luther (Crystal) Hathaway of Tennessee; six step-daughters, Monalisa (Randy) Miles of Port Allegany, Marcella (Harris) Steele of Sulphur Springs, Arkansas, Marlene Yeaples of Angelica, Meldia Justice of Lancaster, Pa, Marcia (Rich) Green of Eldred and Angel (Kevin) Knight of Tennessee; sixteen step-grandchildren and twenty step-great grandchildren; a brother, Tom (Carol) Connolly of Newell Creek; and a sister, Marguarite Lasher of Eldred, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call today (May 6th, 2017) at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Jim Kazimer, pastor of the First Church of God, Eldred, officiating. Burial will be in Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
Military honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 887 of Eldred following the funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 887 of Eldred, the VFW post 2092 of Eldred, or the Wounded Warrior Project.
