John A. Stoughton

Eldred, Pa.          Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Brother  
John A. Stoughton, 73, passed away on Oct. 3, 2017 unexpectedly at the Buffalo General Hospital.
Born Dec. 26, 1943 in Olean, N.Y. he was a son of Roland and Marion Ruth Wright Stoughton.  On October 21, 1972 in the Eldred United Methodist Church he married Charlotte M. Bennett, who survives.
A lifelong resident of Eldred he had served with the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era from 1961 until 1965.  John had been employed by the Operating Engineers Local No. 545 as a technical engineer doing construction layout for many years, retiring in 2002.
He was a member of the Northern Star Masonic Lodge No. 555 F and AM of Duke Center, the Olean Moose Lodge No. 119, the Crosley Automobile Association and a life member of the following clubs, the Eldred American Legion Post No. 887, the Rob Swanson Detachment of the Marine Corps League, the Eldred Conservation Club and the National Rifle Association.  John loved their farm and the joy of maintaining it, restoring their family heirlooms and spending time with family and socializing with his friends, whom he always enjoyed entertaining.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, John of Deltona, Fl., Shane (Lynne) of Gulfport, Miss. and Brent of Colombia, S.C. and two Grandchildren, Cody and Cassidy and a Great Granddaughter, Emma.  Also surviving are brothers, David (Sally) Stoughton of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., Roland “Skeet” (Lola) Stoughton of Eldred and three sisters, Carol (Gary) Kroah of Siloam Springs, Ark., Phyllis (Leonard) Boca of Bullhead City, AZ and Diane (Stewart) Levy of Davie, FL. and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  John was preceded in death by a brother, Dick Stoughton in 2015 and a sister, Gayle Stoughton in 1941.
Friends may call at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred on Sunday from 2-4 and again from 6 to 8 P.M.   Visitation will also be held on Monday (Oct. 9, 2017)  from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at which time the funeral will be held with the Rev. Jay Tennies, officiating.  The Flag of the United States will be respectfully presented by the Eldred American Legion Post No. 887.
