Duke Center—John Lee “Ozzie” Schwab, 76, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Monday, Nov. 25th, 2024.
John was born the eight child of nine children of Joe and Opal Nuhfer Schwab. On February 4th, 1978 Ozzie married Patricia Canaan, the love of his life, who survives.
He attended Otto-Eldred High School, graduating in 1966. Ozzie then joined the US Army and did a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. After his military service he worked several jobs, including Dexter -Hysol which later became the Hinkel Corporation in Olean, NY. He then went to work in the Emergency Room at the Bradford Regional Medical Center as an ER Technician until his retirement.
Mr. Schwab was a Lifetime Member of the Otto Township Volunteer Fire Department. During his fifty years of service, he held many different positions including Capitan, relief coordinator, Otto Township EMA Coordinator, and Fire Chief. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #887 of Eldred and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 4092 of Eldred. He had been a lifelong member of the Eldred Borough Volunteer Fire Department.
Ozzie was a former coach of the Otto Township Nippers Football Team and was an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 46 years are four children that he loved very much , Lisa (Nick) Nichols; Christine Tuller, Julie (Paul) Rader, and his son, Christopher T. (Kayla) Schwab. Ozzie was very proud of his children. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Katarina, Andrew, and Paul Jr. Rader; as well as Zach and Amy Tuller; a brother, Jerry; and a sister, Patty Emery Whitman.
In addition to his parents, Ozzie was preceded in death by three brothers, Tom, Bill and Ronnie; and three sisters, Mary Standard, Sandra Pascarella and Jane Bennett.
Friends may call on Friday (November 29th, 2024) at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. On Saturday at the Otto Township Volunteer Fire Department at 11:00 am funeral services will be held with the Rev. Rick Price Officiating. Burial will follow in Duke Center Cemetery.
