John E. Howard, 87,  of Olean passed away on February 19, 2018 at Absolute Care in Salamanca, N.Y. following a long illness.
Born July 9, 1930 in Bradford he was a son of Melford L. and Erma Wheeler Howard.  On March 14, 1950 in Ulysses, Pa. he married Bertha Furman, who survives.  He had attended Port Allegany Schools and had served in the U.S. Navy. John and his wife had owned and operated a farm on the Two Mile Road in Port Allegany for many years and later a farm in Greenwood, N.Y. until his retirement.
He was a past member of several churches in McKean County and a member of the Port Allegany Moose Lodge.  He loved hunting, fishing, logging and carpentry.  
Surviving in addition to his wife are six sons, Melford Howard and Robert (Shirley) Howard both of Limestone, N.Y., Daniel Howard of Olean, Joseph (Tammy) Howard of Ft. Myers, Fl., Dwayne Howard of Port Allegany and Adam (Lisa) Howard of DuBois, Pa., five daughters, Mable Howard of Olean, Mary Howard of Texas, Laura Button of Andover, Dorothy Howard of Limestone and Kathryn (Robert) Woltz of Gerry, N.Y., also numerous Grand and Great Grandchildren, three brothers, Frank (Judy) Howard of Revea,Va., Martin Howard of Bradford, Donald (Diane) Howard of Beaverton, Michigan and three sisters, Thelma Rudde of Michigan, Bernice Brassell of Lakeside, Califorina and Erma (Nick) Nichols of Jamestown.  He was preceded in death by three sons, John, Ernest and Manley Howard and one daughter, Bertha Howard.
Friends may call today at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P. M. at which time the funeral service will be held with the Rev . Rick Price, Officiating.
