James Lawton
ELDRED — James L. “Jim” Lawton, 76, a long-time resident of Eldred, passed away on Friday (May 27, 2022) at the Olean (N.Y.) General Hospital.
Born on July 23, 1945 he was the son of Jesse L. Lawton and William S. and Moneta D. Mascho Brandt. Jim had attended Bradford schools. He was a longtime resident of Eldred.
Mr. Lawton was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in the Vietnam Era. Jim then spent his career employed for 44 years at Zippo Manufacturing and retiring as a Lab Technician.
Jim was a past member of the American Legion Post #887 of Eldred. When he wasn’t cooking for himself or his family, he was a regular patron at several of the local area restaurants. Jim was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially being with his family. He had coached his kids’ baseball and was previously a leader for his boys’ Boy Scout Troop. His family was his number one priority and was always there for anyone.
Surviving are two sons, John (Karen) Lawton of Mount Jewett and Corey (Erica Glatfelter) Lawton of Port Allegany; two daughters, Renee (Dale) Berridge in Arizona, and Josie (Michael) Lamont of Eldred; 13 grandchildren, Anthony, Justin, Julie, Kylie, Katlin, Jessica, Chelsey, Timothy, Colton, Dakota, Izzy, Aleah, and Bentley; 14 great-grandchildren and several brothers, sisters, nephews, and nieces and a special niece, Christine Schoonover, who helped take care of him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Friends may call at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred on Tuesday (May 31, 2022) from 2 until 5 p.m., at which time a memorial service will be held with the Rev. Rick Price officiating.
