Iris Hardes
ELDRED — Iris L. Hardes, 89, of Smith Road, went to be with the Lord on Sunday (Nov. 20, 2016) at home following a brief illness.
Born Sept. 18, 1927, at home in Winterburn, she was a daughter of Arthur E. and Helen Craven Clyde. On June 15, 1947, in Port Allegany, she married George F. Hardes, who passed away Nov. 8, 2004.
Iris was a 1946 graduate of Otto High School and later graduated from Olean (N.Y.) Business Institute. She was a lifelong resident of Smith Road.
She was employed by Dresser-Clark in Olean for many years as a secretary in the purchasing department before retiring in 1984.
Iris enjoyed sewing and quilting, reading and researching her Scottish heritage and history, and her constant companion was her “Nook.”
Surviving is a son, George A. Hardes of Warren; two daughters, Karen J. Bigley of Eldred and Kathryn (Harry) Martin of Eldred; three grandchildren, Laura Burdge of Harrisburg, Allen Bigley of Eldred and James (Alishia) McDonald of Duke Center; several stepgrandchildren; a brother, Arthur G. (Carol) Clyde of Plymouth, Minn.; and a sister, Priscilla Ann Heake of Rowlett, Texas.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family at a later time. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eldred Area Free Library and Historical Society.
