Helen M. Hepfer, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend

DUKE CENTER, Pa. — Helen M. Hepfer, 87, of Brooklyn Street, unexpectedly went to be with the Lord Thursday (May 26, 2016) at home.
Born Aug. 22, 1928, in Fryburg, she was a daughter of Al and Pearl Keister Nuhfer. On June 21, 1947, in Eldred, she married John Hepfer Sr., who passed away April 19, 1996.
Helen was a 1946 graduate of Otto High School. She was a lifelong resident of Duke Center.
Early in life she spent 20 years employed as an operator for the Otto Telephone Company; later she spent 23 years working at Dresser Manufacturing in Bradford, where she retired in 1989 as mailroom supervisor.
Helen was a member of the former St. John's Catholic Church in Duke Center and St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Eldred, where she taught CCD (Catechism.) She was also a member of the Otto Township Fire Department Auxiliary and was active with the Otto-Eldred Sports Boosters.
Helen was an avid reader, especially of mysteries, and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and Sudoku and watching TV. She enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Starlite Bowling League; she also enjoyed playing horseshoes and golfing. She enjoyed parties and loved spending time and socializing with her friends and family. She loved animals. She would begin each day by reading her Bible.
Surviving are two sons, Steven (Nancy) Hepfer and John (Cyndie) Hepfer of Duke Center; a daughter, Deborah (Tom) Bennett of Rixford; as well as eight grandchildren and 18 great- grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Donna Lorshbaugh.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard and Raymond Nuhfer; and two sisters, Virginia St. Clair and Opal Schwab.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Frame Funeral Home in Eldred. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. at St. Raphael's Church on Monday (May 30, 2016) with Rev. Thomas E. Brown as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Raphael's Cemetery in Eldred.
A scripture service will be held Sunday at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
