Helen Hamilton Obituary

Helen M. Hamilton, 93, passed away on Sunday (June 21, 2015) at the Hospice Home in Jackson, Michigan, where she had been residing with family, following a lengthy illness.

Born June 3, 1922 in Deep Valley, Green County, PA, she was a daughter of Joseph and Laura DeBolt Null.  On March 3, 1942 at the home of her parents in Kane, PA, she married Rev. Glenn Hamilton, who survives.  She was a 1940 graduate of Bradford High School and had resided in Duke Center since 1961.  Helen was a very active pastor’s wife, and always traveled with Glenn whenever the need arose.

She was a member of the Free Methodist Church and had served the church in a variety of supporting roles, including as Sunday School superintendent and teacher, treasurer, at both the local and district levels, and was registrar at the Highlander Christian Camp in Kane for many years.  Along with her husband, she was very active at the Otto-Eldred Food Mission.  Helen was an excellent seamstress and cook, and enjoyed crocheting afghans for family and friends.

Surviving in addition to her husband Glenn A. Hamilton of Spring Arbor, MI (formerly of Duke Center, PA), two daughters, Ruth (Burt) Jones of North Chili, NY and Darlene (Mel) O’Connor of Rogers, AR, and a son David (Carolee) Hamilton of Concord, MI, three grandchildren, Mark (Amy) Hamilton, Kevin O’Connor, Laura (Peter) Wagner, and five great-grandchildren,  CONTACT _Con-39D7B43C25A Justin Thomas, Ian and Elena Hamilton, and Lucas O’Connor and Oscar Wagner.  In 1965, Glenn and Helen added five more children to their family; surviving are Gary, Linda and Bryan Lohiser, all of Duke Center, and Loretta (Don Christopherson) Lohiser of Chelsea, MI.  Helen is also survived by two brothers, Joseph (Dorothy) Null of Gifford, PA, Harold Null of Deptford, NJ and two sisters,  CONTACT _Con-39D7B43C1FB Frances Johnson of Bradford and Florence Ewart of Newark, DE.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Lohiser in 2012, a grandson Matthew Jones in 2005, a brother, Robert Null, and two sisters, Hazel Cowder and Grace Flick. Helen is also survived by her “adopted” grandchildren John and JeriAnn Simora and their children, David and Tracey Schrems and their son, Lynda Wasson, Ivan and Mariela Cordero and their children.

Visitation will be held at the Eldred United Methodist Church 2-4pm and 7-9pm Friday, June 26, 2015.  The funeral service, also at the Eldred United Methodist Church, will be at 11 am on Saturday, June 27,  with visitation starting at 10:00 am.  Pastors participating in the service will be Rev. Robert Brest, Rev. Beth Rosler, and Rev. Gary Sheesley.  Burial will follow in the Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.  The family requests memorials be made to the Matthew Jones Memorial Youth Building at Highlander Christian Camp, Kane, PA.  Online condolences may be made at framefuneralhome.com
