Gordon A. Taylor, beloved husband, father and grandfather
SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. — Gordon A. Taylor, 73, of Myrtle, passed away suddenly on Saturday (April 21, 2018) at Olean General Hospital, following an apparent heart attack.
Born on Sept. 9, 1944, in Olean, N.Y., he was a son of Fay E. and Viola I. Loucks Taylor. On March 16, 2002, at his parents farm on Kings Run, he married Carolyn J. Goodwin, who survives.
He was a 1962 graduate of Oswayo Valley High School and had resided in Myrtle since 1963.
Gordy had been employed at AVX Corp. in Olean and later for a number of years at the East State Tire Co. in Olean, retiring as manager. He had also owned and operated several scrapyards and the Taylor Core Co. in Myrtle.
Gordy loved working in his scrapyard, cooking, eating, playing cards and watching western and cowboy movies. He had also enjoyed operating a garage sale at his residence for many years.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are two sons, William (Vera) Taylor of Little Genesee, N.Y. and Gordon B. (Nancy) Taylor of Eldred; four daughters, Penny Taylor of Brighton, N.Y., Tammy (William) Slater Jr. of Shinglehouse, Tricia (Mark) Olmstead of Shinglehouse and Tawny Taylor of Olean; a stepson, Joseph L. (Marilyn) Watson of Long Beach, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Deborah A. Watson of Kings Run and Jennifer (Todd) Moyer of Eldred; and a son-in-law, Jeffrey Chappell of Turtlepoint; eighteen grandchildren; three brothers, Robert (Joyce) Taylor of Eldred and Dorwin M. (Carolyn) Taylor and Gary D. (Linea) Taylor, both of Shinglehouse; and a sister, Norma Jean Seitz of Cocoa Beach, Fla.
Gordy was preceded in death by a daughter, Tracy Chappell on Nov. 28, 2012; a sister, Anna Lamb; and two brothers, Lyle Taylor and Fay Leroy Taylor.
At Gordon’s request there will be no public services, but a private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
