Gary Hillyard
ELDRED — Gary “Grampa Gary” Hillyard, 72, of Indian Creek Road, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday (Aug. 25, 2021) at the Olean General Hospital.
Born Jan. 22, 1949, in Bradford, he was a son of Ernest and Vivian Mueller Hillyard.
Gary was a 1967 graduate of Otto-Eldred High School and was a lifelong resident of the Eldred area.
He had spent his career as a truck driver, having been employed by Popeil’s Pipe Co. in Duke Center, Kendall Oil Co. in Bradford and finally Glenn O. Hawbaker Construction in Turtlepoint, where he worked until his retirement.
Gary was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors and was a lifelong member of the NRA. He was a longtime member of the Rixford Evangelical Church and enjoyed singing and was a former leader of the choir.
Surviving are three daughters, Marcy Fargo in Virginia, Valerie Covert in Hawaii and Sara (Jaryd Rodgers) Hillyard of Allegany, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Jamie Fargo, Patrick Fargo, Kaley Giancotti, Jessica Covert, Landon Simon, and Isaiah Rodgers; one brother, Leon Hillyard of Eldred, and two sisters, Bonnie (Tom) Jacoby of Duke Center and Sharon (Gary) Southard of Prentisvale.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Cynthia Hillyard in 1979.
Friends may call on Friday at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred from 5 to 7 p.m., and again on Saturday at the Rixford Evangelical Church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Mike Rex officiating. Burial will follow in Lamphier Cemetery in Eldred.
