Eugene “Gene” F. Allegretto, 89, passed peacefully on Friday (Aug. 19, 2022) in Bradford.
Born on Nov. 12, 1932, in Lackawanna, N.Y., Gene was the son of the late Louis and Alma Markert Allegretto. On April 9, 1960, at the First Church of God in Eldred, he married his beloved wife, Norma Ann Palmer, who survives. Together they lived and raised their family in Eldred.
Gene was a 1952 graduate of Wilcox High School. Mr. Allegretto served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War earning the Good Conduct Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He later attended the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and graduated from Saint Bonaventure University, attaining his Bachelor of Science degree with highest honors.
He worked at Bovaird & Seyfang in Bradford and Dresser Clark in Olean, N.Y. He was employed at Pittsburgh-Corning as a staff accountant and retired from Smith Corona in Cortland, N.Y., as a cost analyst before moving to Bradford.
Gene enjoyed many hobbies included hunting, flying Cessna airplanes, riding his motorcycle, square dancing (Belles & Beaus), science and technology, and visiting with family. He attended McCrea Brook Wesleyan Church in Eldred.
He was preceded in death by six brothers Edward, Ray, Theodore, Milton, Louis Jr., and Albert and four sisters Carmella Sample, Julianna, Beatrice Adkins, and Marie.
In addition to his wife, Gene is survived by his four children, Debbie (Nick) Sofos of White Plains, N.Y., Allen (Anna Marie) Allegretto of Wilmington, N.C., Phyllis (Sam) Felder of Orlando, Fla., and Karen Reed of New Castle. Gene was a loving grandfather to nine grandchildren, Stefani (Chris) Sofos-Brown, Tino Sofos, Megan Grantham, Justin Grantham, Anthony Allegretto, Matthew Felder, Jennifer Felder, Kyle McDonald, and Kollyn McDonald, one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
Although Gene is no longer with us on this earth, he will be in our hearts and memories forever.
Friends may call at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred, on Wednesday (Aug. 24, 2022) from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Dan Manning officiating. Burial will follow in Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
