Eldred- Earl G. “Joe” Miller, 83, of the Jenny L Manor, passed away Monday (May 6th, 2013) at the Olean General Hospital following a brief illness.
Born September 30th, 1929 in Rixford he was a son of Alvin and Gertrude Weakland Miller. On February 23rd, 1952 in Eldred, he married Dorothy VanGorder who passed away on November 19th, 1991.
Joe had attended Otto High School and had resided on Edson St. in Eldred for many years.
Mr. Miller was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the US Navy from 1948 to 1952 and had served aboard the USS Mission Bay. He was employed by the Viko Furniture Company in Eldred, which later became the Ethan Allen Furniture Company, from 1955 until his retirement from the shipping and receiving department in 1991.
Joe was a member of the Eldred American Legion Post 887.
Surviving are one son, Gary Miller of Montpelier, Vermont; two daughters, Barb (Rick) Kahle of Prentisvale and Carol (Odis) Barber of Allegany; five grandchildren, Megan, Ericka, Trevin, Madeleine and Owen; five great grandchildren, Randa, Shane, Braylee, Evann, and Tavin.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell and Robert Miller; five sisters, Beatrice, Ethel, Rita, Delores and Joan.
Friends may call Friday (May 10th, 2013) at the Frame Funeral Home in Eldred from 5 to8 pm, at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Thomas E. Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
The Eldred American Legion Post 887 will hold a memorial service at the funeral home Friday at 7:45 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eldred Ambulance Fund or to St. Jude’s Children’s Fund.
