Carl S. Holmes
RIXFORD, Pa. — Carl S. Holmes, 95, formerly of Maple Street, passed away Sunday (July 22, 2018) at the Sena Kean Manor, Smethport, following a long illness.
Born Oct. 16, 1922, in Brownsville, Ohio, he was a son of Asa John and Lulu Douglas Holmes. On March 26, 1955, in Harrisburg, he married Lillian E. Gray, who passed away Jan. 28, 1991.
He attended schools in Ohio and later moved to Rixford, then to Florida for several years before returning to Rixford.
Carl was a veteran of WWII, having served with the U.S. Navy from 1941 until 1947. He was later employed by U.S. Airlines in the operations department at Bradford Regional Airport for 33 years before his retirement.
Carl enjoyed dancing and fishing.
Surviving is one son, Ray Holmes in Utah; a grandson, Ken (Beverly) Morris of Covington, Ga.; a granddaughter, Virginia “Ginny” (Brian) Brice of Toccoa, Ga.; and great grandchildren, Audrey and Tory Morris and Maddy Brice.
In addition to his wife of 36 years, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Morris Freer in 2003; five brothers, Rex, Francis, Howard, Ray and Fred Holmes; and three sisters, Ruth Orr, Thelma Watters and Ella Mae Peters.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday (July 27, 2018) at the Frame Funeral Home in Eldred, with the Rev. Rick Price officiating. Burial will follow in the Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
Memorials may be made to the Otto Township Ambulance or the Fire Department.
