ELDRED, Pa. — Carl H. Berg Jr., 80, of Edson Street, went to be with
the Lord on Monday (July 18, 2016) at home surrounded by his loved
ones.
Born Jan. 8, 1936, in Smethport, he was a son of Carl H. and Kellela R.
Smith Berg Sr. On June 15, 1957, in St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in
Olean, he married Doris May Card, who survives.
Carl was a 1953 graduate of Smethport High School. He lived in Eldred
for over 50 years.
Mr. Berg was a Korean War-era veteran, having served with the U.S.
Marine Corps. Following his service, he was employed by Dresser-Rand in
Olean as a machinist for over 30 years.
He was a member of the Bob Swanson Detachment 1102, Marine Corps League
of Mount Jewett, the Eldred American Legion Post 887 and the First
Church of God in Eldred.
Carl loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He
most enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children and
grandchildren.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of over 60 years, are three sons,
Michael (Jean) Berg of Covington, Ky., Dennis Berg of Eldred and Eric
(Radana) Berg of Christiansburg, Va.; a daughter, Sharon Hodgdon of
Bradford; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Art
(Lisa) Berg of Greensboro, N.C.; and three sisters, Betty Knapp of
Smethport, Donna (Jim) Master of Mount Alton, and Diane (Bill) Peace of
Florida.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Carl
H. Berg III, in 2014.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday (July 23, 2016) at the Frame
Funeral Home, Eldred. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday
(July 24, 2016) at the First Church of God in Eldred with the Rev. Jim
Kazimer officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marine Corps League, the
First Church of God in Eldred, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
