Smethport — Betty Tanner, 84, of Digel Hollow passed away on Friday (July 23, 2021) at Lakeview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on July 24, 1936 she was the daughter of Lenora and Keith Austin.
On April 11, 1953 she married the late Nelson A. Tanner Sr. in Kent Hollow.
Betty attended Farmers Valley School and resided in Digel Hollow for 59 years.
She raised her family and later worked in housekeeping at McKean County Courthouse.
She was a member of OES Phoenix Chapter No.15 in Smethport. Betty loved her family very much, read her bible every day and enjoyed reading, crocheting and baking.
Surviving are three sons Nelson “Joe” (Julia) Tanner Jr. of Farmers Valley, Frank (Rose) Tanner of Indiana and Richard “Dick” Tanner of Coleville; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one great grandson; one sister Judith Fitzsimmons of Smethport; two half-sisters Pam Cover of Jamestown and Darlene Durphy of Texas; one sister-in-law, MariBelle Dunn of Coudersport; two brother-in-laws, Chester Tanner Sr. of Coryville and Norman Tanner of Eldred; in addition to many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five sisters, Pat (Joyce) Stewart, June Tanner, Lois Slade, Dawn Tanner, Bertha Austin; two brothers Keith Austin and Stanley Austin; parents; and stepfather Edwin Booth and stepmother Elsie Keister Austin.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred on Tuesday, (July 27, 2021), with the funeral service immediately following. Rev. Max Simms will be officiating.
