Aloysius Barnish Jr.
SMETHPORT — Aloysius E. “Al” Barnish Jr., 71, formerly of the Barnum Road Eldred, passed away on Sunday (Oct. 5, 2014) at his residence.
Born Sept. 6, 1943 in Denville Township, N.J., he was a son of Aloysius and Gloria DePoalo Barnish Sr.
On Feb. 27, 1963 he married Sandra L. Nuhfer, who passed away on July 26, 2014.
Mr. Barnish attended Denville Township School and later received his GED. He later graduated from the National School of Meat Cutting in 1975. He had resided in the Eldred and Smethport area since 1973.
Mr. Barnish had served in the U.S. Navy. He had been employed as a meat cutter in Eldred and Bolivar, N.Y., for most of his life, and had been employed as a salesman for Whitehawk Beef Co. in Eldred. In 2005 he retired from Jim’s Shopwise in Eldred. For many years he owned and operated Al’s Place hunting and trapping supplies on the Barnum Road.
Al enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping, and loved being outdoors. He had also made his own trapping lures and baits.
Surviving are a son, Tony (Billie) Barnish, and two daughters, Shirley (JoLynne Leet) Wolf and Donna (Matt) Morris, all of Smethport; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother, Danny (Maria) Barnish of Jackson, N.J.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a son, Al Barnish III in 1993; a granddaughter, Savannah Barnish in 1987; and two sisters.
Friends may call Wednesday at the Frame Funeral Home in Eldred from 2 to 4 p.m., at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Jay Tennies officiating. Burial will be in Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
