ELDRED, Pa. — John L. "Jack" Gilfert, of Eldred, passed away Wednesday (March 03, 2021) following a lengthy illness.

Born Aug. 24, 1934, in Kane, he was the son of Clyde and Nora Olson Gilfert. On Jan. 24, 1959, in Eldred, he married Nancy M. Frampton, who survives.

Jack was a 1952 graduate of Kane High School, then went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. During his time serving he served in Todendorf, Germany and Fort Eustis, Va. He also served in the Korean War.

Jack was a 1957 graduate of Bryant & Stratton College, Buffalo, N.Y.

He was a former CEO and co-owner of Fibercell Corporation in Portville, N.Y., until his retirement.

Jack also was a life member of the Port Allegany VFW, served on the Eldred Borough Council. He was a lifetime member of the Eldred Fire Department, joining in 1959.

Surviving, along with his wife, are three sons, John (Tracey) Gilfert of Cuba, N.Y., James Gilfert of Eldred and Joel (Lisa) Gilfert of Portville; two brothers-in-law, John "Crow" Shay of Eldred and Bill Frampton of Tulsa, Okla; eight grandchildren, Justin Gilfert of Bristol, Va., Morgan (Richie) Dowell of Eldred, Rheannon (Nick) Coleman of Gibsonia, Senneca (Ariann) Stone of Pittsburgh, Channing (Cory) Niver of Brevard, N.C., Holden Bernstein of Olean, N.Y., Tiernney Bernstein and Maddox Bish of Portville; 10 great-grandchildren, James and Nora Dowell, Julia, Shane, Trey and Liam Simpson, Micah Bernstein, Blake Niver, and Liam and Evan Mix; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Keith Gilfert in 1998 and Larry Gilfert in 2009; and one sister, Natalie Gilfert in 2001.

A private service will be held by the family and burial will be in St Raphael's Cemetery, Eldred.

We will miss seeing Mr. Gilfert around the neighborhood. He always spoke to us when we were out walking. So sorry for your loss. Please know that he is at peace. Lee and Terri Tyler

I am sorry for your loss, as years ago I worked with Jack at Firbercel, Portville, NY. Jack always had a great smile and wit, and made the office a great place to work.
