Norman E. Hobbs, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. — Norman E. Hobbs, 89, formerly of Eldred, passed away on Thursday (May 17, 2018) at Olean General Hospital, following an apparent heart attack.

Born on Jan. 28, 1929, in Follansbee, W.V., he was a son of Albert and Hazel Hall Hobbs. On July 12, 1950, in Port Allegany, he married Betty Lushbaugh, who passed away on March 21, 2016.

He attended Port Allegany area schools, and had resided in Eldred before moving to Port Allegany.

Norm was a veteran of the Korean War, having served on the USS Midway aircraft carrier, as a gunners mate.

Norm had been employed at the Pittsburgh-Corning Co. in Port Allegany for 13 years, and later was employed by North Penn Gas Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1991.

He was a member of the Port Allegany American Legion Post No. 258; life member of the Star Hose Co. of Port Allegany; the Port Allegany Moose Lodge No.460; vice president of the Fairview Cemetery Association; and a member of the Little Red Diner Round Table.

Norm loved mowing and taking care of his lawn and keeping his car clean. He also enjoyed his sweets, donuts and pies, bird watching, and years ago, he enjoyed dancing with Betty and gardening.

Surviving are three sons, Gary (Donna) Hobbs of Eldred, Dennis (Cathy) Hobbs of Sevierville, Tenn. and David (Karen) Hobbs of Port Allegany; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Gerald (Marie) Hobbs of Port Allegany; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Norm was preceded in death by one brother, Albert Hobbs; and two sisters, Mary Frances Smith and Dorothy Niles.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Frame Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday (May 21, 2018) at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mike Culver, officiating. Full military honors will be presented by the Port Allegany American Legion Post Honor Guard. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Port Allegany.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Port Allegany Fire Dept.; their ambulance fund; or to the American Legion Post 258.

Gary, Dennis, Dave & families,
We are so sorry for your loss. We have many good memories of your dad from the time that he and I both worked at North Penn and also from when he came to visit me to pay his taxes. He always had a story to tell. We will miss him.
