Rosemarie Elizabeth “Rosie” Meiers

ELDRED, Pa. — Rosemarie Elizabeth “Rosie” Meiers, 91, passed away on Tuesday (July 25, 2017), at the Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, in Olean N.Y.
Born September 7, 1925, in Dade City, Fla., she was a daughter of Joseph and Josephine Neidhart Fuchs. On June 7, 1947, in the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, in Portville, N.Y., she married James R. Meiers, who passed away on November 19, 2008. She and her husband had resided in Olean, Allegany, N.Y., and Portville, and retired in Eldred, spending their winters in Florida.
She graduated from Fulton High School, in Fulton, N.Y., in 1942, and later graduated from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Buffalo, N.Y., in 1946 as a registered nurse.
She had been employed as a registered nurse at the Olean General Hospital and later at St. Bonaventure University in the infirmary. She then worked for many years in pediatrics at St. Francis Hospital in Olean.
She enjoyed bowling and had bowled on women’s leagues at the Bowlean Lanes in Olean and had participated in tournaments across New York state. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, playing cards, crosswords, and watching and traveling to see the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball, football and baseball teams.
Surviving are three children; Joanne “Joey” (Chris) Mattie, of Eldred, Linda (Russ) Pancio of St. Charles, Miss., and Jim (Darrick) Meiers of New Oxford. Rosemarie had four grandchildren, Chris Mattie, Andy Pancio, Emily Tyler and Elise Pancio; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may attend a mass and celebration of her life at 11 a.m. Saturday (July 29, 2017) at the St. Raphael Church, with the Rev. Thomas Brown, officiating.
Memorials can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
