Mary A. Gallant
Smethport- Mary A. Gallant, 74, of Union St., passed away peacefully at home Monday (June 18th) following a brief illness.
Born March 7th, 1938 in Kane she was a daughter of Russell and Emily McCoy Johnson.  She was married to Gerald Gallant on February 22nd, 1969 in Newport, New Hampshire. They were married for thirty-six years until his death in 2005.
Mary attended Cyclone Elementary School for 8 grades.  Then she attended Smethport High School, graduating in 1956.  She then went to Buffalo General Hospital School of Nursing and graduated from there in 1959.
She worked in Nursing in New Hampshire, New York, Florida and Pennsylvania.  She worked in many capacities and loved her patients.
Mary was a twenty-five year member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Smethport American Legion Post 138.  She was a lifetime member of the Port Allegany VFW Past Veteran’s Memorial Home.
She loved the New York Times Crossword Puzzles, Jeopardy and Pogo.
Survivors include sons, Gerald Gallant Jr. of Smethport, Joseph (Cristy) Fortune of Ferrisburg, Vermont, Al Fortune of Westminster, Vermont; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren; a brother, Barry (Mary) Johnson of Spartansburg, PA; brother in law Joe (Kathy) Fay of Syracuse; Sisters in law, Jane Byrd of Clearwater, FL and Marilyn Fay of Greenfield, NH; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Marsha Killian in 2011 in Oklahoma; three brothers, Stephen, Robert Johnson and her Twin Eric Johnson; sisters and also twins, Jean Martin and Claire Woods; and brother in law Dusty Fay.
There will be no services as per Mary’s request.
