Kenneth E. Emerson      Loving Father and Grandfather
Lewis Run- Kenneth E. Emerson, 84, formerly of Eldred, passed away Saturday (April 21, 2012) at the Olean General Hospital following an extended illness.
Ken, who had resided with his daughter in Lewis Run for the past five years, was born October 24th, 1927 in Eldred he was a son of Frank and Violet McCoy Emerson.  On Dec. 27th, 1952 in St. Mary’s Church, Sartwell he married Veronica A. Masterson who passed away June 5th, 1974.  Then on May 10th, 1975 in St. Raphael’s Church in Eldred he married Janet M. Corthell who passed away June 10th, 2008.
Mr. Emerson was a 1946 graduate of Eldred High School.  He resided in Newell Creek for 10 years before moving back to Eldred in 1963.
Ken served with the U.S. Army during WWII as a Radio Operator.  He was employed by Clark Brothers which later became Dresser Rand in Olean for 39 years retiring as a lead mechanic in 1989.
He was a member of St. Raphael’s Church since 1963, member and past deputy Grand-Knight of the Knights of Columbus since 1963, a life member of the Eldred American Legion Post 887 since 1949 and United Steel Workers Union #4601.  He loved to read, watch birds and have coffee with his morning club at T.J.’s.  He also enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving are one son, Michael (Tammy) Emerson of Winchester, VA; one stepson, Robert (Jennifer) MacWilliams of Camby, OR; four daughters, Kathleen (Ken) Perkins of Lewis Run, Amy Hetrick of Brookville, Michelle (David) Huie of Stanley, NY, and Melody (John) Basta of Toledo, OH; two step daughters, Karen (Rick) Tanner of Wills Point, TX and Wendy (Tim) Morris of Kempner, TX; nineteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren; one brother, Walter (Dorothy) Emerson of Leicester, Mass.
In addition to his wives he was preceded in death by three brothers, Stanley, Richard and Ronald Emerson; one sister, Juanita Gross.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Frame Funeral Home in Eldred.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Thursday in St. Raphael’s Church with Rev. Steven Collins, as celebrant.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Sartwell.
The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s.
