PORT ALLEGANY — Norma J. DeHaven, 89, formerly of Grimes District Road, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday (March 6, 2024) at Sena Kean Manor, surrounded by her loving family.
Born Sept. 4, 1934, she was the daughter of Clifford and Neva C. McNeil Grimes. On June 26, 1954, at Free Methodist Church in Port Allegany, she married Donald A. DeHaven, who preceded her in death Feb. 2, 2010. They were married for 55 years.
Norma was a 1953 graduate of Port Allegany High School. She was previously employed by Sylvania and Cameo Doll Factory in Port Allegany, and then retired as a seamstress from Ethan Allen.
She was previously a member of the Pennsylvania Women’s Bowling Association and was a State Champion in 1983. Also, she was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, Enchanted Mountain Snowmobile Club and previously attended Free Methodist Church of Port Allegany where she was a Sunday school teacher.
Norma enjoyed bowling, hunting — and had many stories to tell — snowmobiling, crafting and attending craft bazaars. She also enjoyed spending her summer weekends camping at the former Foote Rest Campground in Mount Jewett. Norma also was an avid animal lover and loved to bake.
Surviving are three daughters, Karen S. and Lisa D. DeHaven of Melbourne, Fla., and Paula J. (Daniel) Drabant of Silver Springs, Fla.; one brother, Edward Grimes of Port Allegany; two sisters, Shirley McDowell and Mary Lou Higley of Port Allegany; 11 grandchildren, Nicole DeHaven-Wells, Malory (Matthew) Foster, Malane (Chris Jeffcoat) DeHaven, Jessica (Devin Frame) DeHaven, Kevin DeHaven, Thomas, Hannah and Robert Landry, Alex (Brandy Moffett) DeHaven, Kari, Gregory Jr. and Dan DeHaven; and 18 great grandchildren, three of which she was especially close with, Blake McCoy, Reese Kinney and Abigail DeHaven.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Gregory D. DeHaven Sr., on Feb. 26, 2010; and one brother, Gerry Grimes, on May 5, 2000.
Visitation will be held 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday (March 11, 2024) and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Port Allegany United Methodist Church on Main Street, where funeral services will immediately follow with the Rev. Beth Rosler and the Rev. Jim Cannistraci co-officiating. Burial will follow in Grimes District Cemetery.
