Joshua J. Slavin Beloved Son and Grandson
Eldred- Joshua J. Slavin, 36, formerly of Eldred, son of Kathleen J. Slavin and grandson of the late James J. and Angela A. Slavin, passed away Monday (April 23rd, 2012) in Pittsburgh, PA.
Born December 4th, 1975 in Erie, PA, Josh lived with generosity, pure love, and unsurpassable creativity.
Josh graduated from Otto-Eldred High School in 1994 and attended college at Alfred and Edinboro Universities. He majored in art and filmmaking. At this point, he had the distinct privilege of meeting and discussing his film project with the renowned producer Oliver Stone. They formed a valuable friendship that helped to pave the way for many of Josh’s projects he was perfecting.
Surviving are his mother, Kathleen Slavin, his God-parents Terrance and Cynthia Stanley, his uncle Steven and Aunt Anne, all of Eldred; as well as several great uncles, aunts and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James J. and Angela A. Slavin who were instrumental in his life; his grandmother Angela instilled her Lebanese heritage into Josh through her fluent speaking of the Arabic language, her Middle Eastern cuisine and her enveloping love. His grandfather James taught Josh the lessons of living a life of virtue and determination which was done through his grandfather’s fine example of a man.
Because of his love of animals, Josh was a member and volunteer at the local S.P.C.A. along with being a participant at the Humane Society, PETA, the World Wildlife Society and the animal Rescue League. His dogs, Moon and Roscoe, were his companions in all that he did.
Josh worked as a graphic, design, and creative artist; several of his works have been featured at the Gallarie Chiz in Pittsburgh, the Octane Photographic Studio in Detroit, Michigan, and the Raw Arts Festival in New York City.
Among his passions in life, Josh had acquired a special interest in the sport of running. This was a result of having his uncle Terry, an accomplished marathoner, by his side during his entire lifetime. Josh completed both the Pittsburgh and Presque Isle marathons in 2010, a goal he had strived to accomplish.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the following: the local S.P.C.A., the Humane Society, PETA, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
A memorial mass will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Frame Funeral Home in Eldred.

To the Slavin Family I am so Sorry for your Loss. I can't even express how this saddens me. Josh was a wonderful person and I am glad to have known him and that we had the opportunity to go to Walsh together. Kathy you are in my thoughts and prayers! Josh was too young to be gone, but I am sure Jim & Anne will take good care of him, along with many others. He will always be in your heart and watching over you. He will be greatly missed! God Bless You and Rest In Peace Josh......

My dear broken-hearted friends,
Even though there are no words with power enough to soften your grief, I hope it helps to know that I hold you in thought and prayer. Losing someone we love brings exquisite pain, and when the loss is out-of-time, the sorrow is even deeper. My prayer is that you will find comfort in God's abiding presence, in your precious memories of Josh, and in the caring of all those who love you.

I really only knew Josh through flickr where I met him through his artwork and developed a common bond from our interests. Josh and I exchanged emails and our life stories, I became a big fan of his and his body of work will remain among my favorites. I was fortunate to see his work at the Raw Art Festival in NYC. While I am sorry for his passing I am grateful to have met him even if at a distance. Josh was funny, creative and a wonderful artist.
My deepest condolences to all his family and friends
